Independent watchmaking thrives on challenging convention. The Ace of Hearts, a collaboration between Chinese independent watchmaker BEHRENS and Russian master watchmaker Konstantin Chaykin, represents a fascinating intersection of mechanical innovation and artistic imagination.

Konstantin Chaykin gained international recognition with his Joker watch, introduced in 2017, which ingeniously transformed the traditional hours and minutes into a pair of expressive eyes. The Ace of Hearts continues this distinctive design philosophy while incorporating BEHRENS' experimental approach to movement architecture and contemporary materials.

The Blue Sapphire edition features a translucent light-blue sapphire crystal case, complemented by matching skeletonised movement bridges and a coordinated rubber strap. Two circular displays indicate the hours and minutes, creating a pair of animated eyes whose expressions change continuously throughout the day.

Beneath them, a vivid red heart-shaped outline forms an exaggerated smile, transforming the mechanical composition into a playful, characterful face.

Through the transparent caseback, the movement reveals an intricate arrangement of openworked blue bridges, exposed gears and carefully integrated mechanical components. This architectural construction highlights the technical creativity behind the collaboration while celebrating the visual beauty of mechanical watchmaking.
