In 1997, Cartier celebrated its 150th anniversary with a selection of commemorative timepieces. Among them was this distinctive Must de Cartier Tank, a creation that celebrates the Maison's heritage through timeless design rather than mechanical complexity.
Originally conceived by Louis Cartier in 1917 and commercially introduced in 1919, the Tank drew inspiration from the silhouette of military tanks. The Must de Cartier collection, launched in 1977, subsequently brought this iconic design to a wider audience through expressive colours and alternative materials.
This anniversary edition retains the Tank's unmistakable rectangular silhouette, crafted in gold-plated sterling silver, or Vermeil. Its silvered dial features bold Roman numerals, a railway minute track and an intricate guilloché centre. Blued sword-shaped hands and a red cabochon-set crown complete the composition.
The caseback reveals its commemorative identity, featuring the 1847–1997 anniversary engraving and the distinctive heart-shaped LC emblem. Paired with a burgundy leather strap, this special Tank captures both the nostalgic charm of the 1990s Must collection and an important milestone in Cartier's history.
